Fez to Desert Excursion
After an early breakfast you will begin your ascent we pass through Ifrane, a winter ski resort in a totally un Moroccan style built by the French in the 1930's to resemble a Swiss village; drive across the Middle Atlas Mountains. Most of the day will be spent winding your way through the beautiful forests, jagged rock faces, and Berber villages as you cross the Atlas Mountains and begin to descend towards the Sahara Desert. Half way, you will stop for lunch in the town of Midelt, famous for its fossils and rocks. Arrive in the desert where your guide and camels will be waiting to carry you across the sandy dunes of the Moroccan Sahara. Camel trek as the sun set across a desert landscape, for approximately 2 hrs to reach your desert camp and home for the night: a traditional nomad tent. At your desert shelter, your camels are hobbled and mint tea is served. A simple meal of tagine is freshly prepared for you by your guide.
When you came by camel next morning you will take shower and relax before we take the 4*4 for a tour of approximately 3 hours and 1/2 in the desert to see the different faces of desert dunes with its black volcanic rocks, passing through small villages, where we will stop to lunch with a Berber family in their tent, along the road used by the Paris Dakar rallye We will reach a cave where you can discover how the local people extract the fossils from the heart of the earth.
In the afternoon we will return to our Merzouga hotel to relax, dine and listen to local music. For those who wish, we can take a night walk through the dunes to listen to the silence and watch the stars.
Day3: after the breakfast we take the road back to Fes we stop to visit Rissani the place from which Arab dynasties first came to Morocco. Old capital by the ancient Alaouite Sultans in the road we see men wearing the indigo blue robes distinctive of the Saharan people. We will see:
The monument historic of Sijilmassa the big center of desert trade
• the Kasbahs (village fortify) in the area of Rissani there is more than 350 Kasbah
• mosulement of Moulay Ali Charif (the founder of Alaouite Dynasty)
• musem of Lfida
• souq ‘big market in the area)
Lunch in a Moroccan traditional restaurant we continues towards Fes.
